With so many excellent spas in Bangkok, it’s difficult to find time to revisit all of the spas that have impressed you over the years, especially when you’ve reviewed so many, as I have. Therefore, after an impossibly fast seven-year absence of a visit to Devarana Spa at the Dusit Thani Hotel, in Bangkok, I finally returned for a sneak peek of what’s on offer right now (from January 2017).
Returning to Devarana Spa is like meeting up with an old friend; not one that punches you on the arm and comments about how you’ve put on a few pounds, but the one that gives you a big warm hug and you instantly remember why you’re such good pals. It instantly feels like no time has elapsed, since you last saw each other.
There is a unique sense of arrival at Devarana Spa. Walking through the hotel, towards the spa, you are confronted with a grand-looking staircase, with sunshine beaming down from a well-placed skylight at the first landing. Turning the corner and up the final few steps into the spa, there a decadent, yet simply elegant, reception and relaxation lounge await, with a catwalk-style appeal...
To celebrate the new Year of The Rooster, Devarana Spa is initiating a series of floral treatments, with ancient healing properties. Not only in Thailand, but also in The Philippines, The Maldives and Kenya, the ‘Divine Floral Remedy’ treatments will change on a quarterly basis.
Since 1st January 2017, the first botanically inspired introduction is the ‘Glittering Lotus Healing’. This comprises a 30-minute body scrub, followed by an indulgent 90-minute oil massage with real gold leaf. Rich in antioxidants, and aiding the skin in protection against harmful sunrays, this treatment lends an incredibly luxurious feel. The body scrub utilizes pure extracts from gold and lotus petals to nourish, and preps the skin for the ensuing massage oil absorption.
In the luxurious treatment room or suites, you are thoroughly pampered by the highly trained spa therapists, who make it their mission to ensure every single aspect, from room temperature to level of background music it to your preference.
After the scrub you are helped to the shower, which is already set at the ideal temperature and water pressure for you to efficiently rinse away all of the scrub particles. The shower is heavenly with great water pressure and you may be tempted to stay there a while, but remind yourself the best is yet to come with the gold leaf massage! Along with all of the usual benefits of high quality massage oils, what the gold leaf does for your skin is add a lustre and shine, to give a luxuriously healthy glow and promote a sense of well-being.
This two-hour package is well worth the money spent for the entire Devarana experience, from welcome drink to parting tea and tropical dried fruit to sample and replenish.
