Short-but-sweet city breaks are an incredibly fun part of travel - hop on a plane, touchdown, and it’s usually go, go, go! Finding the right accommodation in the perfect location is a fine art to appropriately maximise your time in a bustling centre. This is no less true in the sovereign island nation of Singapore…

Prime location, Pullman Singapore Orchard

Just a quick direct two-hour-plus flight on Thai Airways from Suvarnabhumi Airport, and you’re there. A stark contrast the beautiful metropolitan madness that is Bangkok, the highly manicured Singapore landscape is a colossal change of wallpaper! The vibe is delightfully different, the tempo is calmer and concise, and green is everywhere – you’re certainly not in Bangkok anymore.

Under the motto a change is as good as a rest, with a city break, your accommodation choice is key to feeling... well... 'rested'. Be in the thick of it, but once the sliding doors close behind you, an overriding sense of welcome, chillness and sanctuary overcomes you.

Enter the brand-new (one-month old) Pullman Singapore Orchard (PSO), complete with giant pug guard dog in shades and a bowtie at the door. The location perched over Orchard Road, with its magnitude of shopping, restaurants, bars, clubs, offices, climbing gyms, parks, sights and other attractions is second to none! Whether you love seeing a place on foot, in a cab, by Grab, MRT or bus, nothing of interest is too far away. Even the airport is just a 20-minute ride. So, as to the question of being in the thick of it – check! Then, the calm and serenity – most definitely, check!

Atelier Lounge, Pullman Singapore Orchard

A stylish new hotel, with zero visible teething troubles, the staff and management are an absolute delight, from arrival to departure, and nothing ever seems too much trouble – especially, if you opt for the Club experience, which, of course, is the quintessential, city-break style, to stay and play.

PSO Club Residence Room, Pullman Singapore Orchard

The fourth floor, also home to Eden Restaurant, the 24-hr gym, conference rooms, Atelier Lounge, and the PSO Beach Club pool and cabanas, is the refuge of the PSO Club Residence experience, complete with Archive Lounge. The rooms and suites are spacious, which is not always to be expected in Singapore, and in-room amenities include VOSS Water, T2 Tea and C.O.Bigelow toiletries. Archive is open from 10am-10pm, with a host of enticing benefits, which temptingly slow your roll, including cocktails and canapes, meeting facilities, super-fast wifi, and gracious hosts. If you’re combining work and leisure, as one often is these days, PSO facilitates!

Work and play combo, while away can be exhausting, and at the end of the day or in the early hours, a piping hot shower, and a thick fluffy robe, before sinking into your comfy bed and submerging yourself in the plushest pillows, cocooned by blackout curtains, is as restful and rejuvenating as a spa day (almost!). Greeted by the smiling faces of staff who remember you by name the next morning, just makes you feel all the more at home – kudos to the entire team and their charming GM!

Reception & Check-in, Pullman Singapore Orchard

Nearby Orchard and Somerset MRT stations, this hotel is a ‘highly-recommend’ – business or leisure trip – smack-bang in the middle of Orchard Road, a stone’s throw from the famous Paragon mall with all its luxury shopping and packed-out restaurants. From there, walk to Fort Canning Park, in one direction, or the Botanical Gardens, in the other, and in between there’s more shopping than you can shake a credit-card-studded stick at!

Dining at Eden Restaurant

With casinos, rooftop bars, Clarke Quay nightlife, Chinatown, Little India, Marina Bay, Gardens By The Bay lightshows, museums, galleries, listed buildings, WWII memorials and educational centres, Singapore, albeit small in scale, packs a mighty city-break punch on multiple fronts. You leave hankering for just a little more (in part thanks to newcomer PSO!), as you reluctantly head for Changi Airport again, bidding a fond farewell to your Singapore fling.
